Finding Their Sweet Spot

With all the talk around this joint about “finding your sweet spot,” I thought I’d write a quick post about a friend of mine who has found his.

There’s a guy at my church who has been a really huge influence on me. He’s been co-leader of the mens ministry there, and is just an awesome brother and friend. He’s the kind of guy that makes me want to be a better Christian, husband, father, and friend. He’s rock solid, pulls no punches, but shows the love of Christ to everyone he meets. He’s a husband and father of 3 teenage boys, too.

Well, he and his family are selling their house and cars and moving to Ireland to help shepherd a local church there. This is a guy in his mid-40s, and he’s quitting a good job, leaving a comfortable life, and moving his family halfway around the world, all for the sake of Christ. He’s following what he believes the Lord has called him to do. And the coolest thing is that his whole family is right on board. His oldest son is in college, and has to find his own way, and he’s going too! His 2 sons that are still in high school are chomping at the bit to go. And, get this, the kids have been playing traditional Irish music for years now. They had no clue that they’d ever be going there!

Last Sunday at church, they got up to let us all know what was going on, and when they were leaving. They said that this was a calling that was set in motion over 20 years ago. They said they just wanted to be obedient to God’s call on their lives. He never mentioned the phrase “sweet spot,” but I could see it in his eyes and hear it in his words. He found his.

Just a little encouragment for those of us who are hunting for ours.
