And So It Begins…

The bags are packed (mostly). The baby’s asleep. The new security lights are installed. Rusty will be taken care of (by two really neat Philipino guys…but that’s another post). And in a few minutes, the laptop will be in the bag, ready for the trip.

Our long-awaited, 2 years in-the-making trip to the mountains is finally upon us! Tomorrow at this time, I’ll be breathing that Carolina mountain air, staring at the scenic vista of a lake nestled between the hills, and hugging every tree in sight. I am beyond excited.

A lot has changed in the 2 years since we last went. Little Baby C wasn’t around last time, and I can’t wait to see everything through her eyes: the view, the ducks, the stairs in the cottage (oh yeah…she’s figured out that those things are FUN). I’m looking forward to taking her up to my favorite “perch” and holding the tangible evidence of answered prayers uttered from that very location.

Obviously, we’re 2 years older. These last couple of years have brought many changes in our lives, but I haven’t had time to really think over any of them. I’m looking forward to some time to reflect this week on all that has transpired. Getting away from the cell phone, the tv, the computer (errr…well, maybe not the computer)…I hope to have some time to just soak in the Creation and thank the Creator for letting me make it another year to see it all.

I love the mountains…can you tell? The beach, I could care less about. I do like standing on it, looking at the ocean, and realizing my smallness before my God, but that’s about it. I don’t care for sand in my nether regions, salt water up my nose, and melanoma. Give me mountains, or give me death!

I think the reason I like the mountians so much is that they’re “in” me. I was born in the foothills of Virginia, but I never got to grow up there. Instead, I grew up in the flatlands of Oklahoma. If that doesn’t make you appreciate great mounds of earth thrust up to the sky, nothing will. But more than that, I think they’re in my blood. I can’t explain it, but I am a different person up there. Maybe it’s the thin air. I don’t know, but I love it. I can’t wait to get there.

Heck, I might even do two posts a day.
