“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, measured heaven with a span, and caculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountians in scales and the hills in a balance?” Isaiah 40:12
That verse really trips me out, because as big as I think God is, He’s bigger still. He’s bigger than I ever give Him credit. Most of the time, I talk like He’s the Creator of the universe, but I like to put Him in my little box, safe and put away.
The verse above says otherwise. My God held the waters of this earth in the “hollow of His hand” when He formed it from nothing! Think of that! I’ve never tried it, but I don’t think I could go down to Carolina Beach and scoop up the Atlantic in my palm. But He can, and did! Along with the Artic, Pacific, Indian, Jordan Lake, Lake Erie, and ever Carol’s unpronouncable lake up north. Every drop of water on this rock…was in His hands.
And He “measured heaven with a span.” Think of our little solar system and its nine…er….8 planets, and how large it seems to us. Then think that there are billions of similar solar systems in our galaxy. Then think that there are billions of those galaxies in our universe! Then think of this: God measured them all out using the distance between His thumb and pinkie. That’s what a span is. The distance between our outstretched thumb and pinkie. On me, that’s about 9 inches. I don’t know about you, but THAT is a big God!
That tells me that God is bigger than anything I’m going to face today, tomorrow, or the next day. That tells me that, if He can create so much and hold it all in the palm of His hand, He can handle anything that comes my way. That tells me that I can trust Him, because He sees the picture a WHOLE lot clearer than me.
