My head is swimming with song lyrics that center on change. “Time may change me, but I can’t change time.” “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” “A change will do you good.”
Blah, blah, blah.
Change is inevitable, but change is never easy. The very concept of change implies it is a departure from the norm, the status-quo, the comfortable, the familiar. Change is a turn in another direction from the one in which you were going. Change is often for the good, but it’s very rarely easy. It usually encompasses much more than we ever realize at the time, and it effects far more than we ever realize.
Life is full of change, some good, some bad. But, like it or not, it’s coming to all of us.
The funny thing is, like it or not, we all deal with it fairly well. We get up and keep going. We adapt. We…change.
I find myself in a change. It’s exhilarating and frightening (I guess those must go together, eh?) all at the same time.
And I find myself realizing more and more how my change affects others, and I pray that it is felt in a good way.
But that’s the thing with change: we don’t know how it will affect us, much less anyone else.
We just change.
All of us.
All the time.
