In case you missed it, I added a couple new things to the Perch this week. First, and most noticeably, I added the link to Compassion International you see above this post. If you’re not familiar with Compassion, click on the link and check it out. Amanda and I have sponsored a young boy from Uganda for 9 years, and we recently began sponsoring a little girl from Colombia. For about a dollar a day, these kids are provided with food, clothing, and education at Compassion projects near their homes. They are also exposed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is something money can’t buy. We write letters back and forth, and have been blessed in many ways by them both. It’s pretty amazing to get a letter from a little guy halfway around the world that tells you he’s praying for you. He, who has so little, is praying for us, who have so much. Such is the body of Christ. I can’t wait until Caroline is old enough to write her own letter, and to understand what it is we’re doing.
I chose this particular link to use because it drives home an astounding point. In the time it took you to read this, 2 children have died from AIDS. Compassion has made it a point to set up in areas where children are especially at risk to this terrible disease, and you can even choose to support a child in one of those areas. Ivan, our “son” from Uganda, is in one such area. It’s just a way to try and do something to make a difference. However small it is to us, it’s huge to those on the receiving end.
Secondly, and I mean WAY second, I put up links to the books I’m reading right now. So, if you’re interested in what they are or want to pick up a copy, you can click and be whisked away to the wonderful world of Amazon.com.
Thanks for reading the Perch.
