Stopping to Think

I was talking to a friend of mine at work the other day, and I made the following comment:

“I started a completely new career, we’re expecting baby #2, and we’re remodeling a house.  Any of those three alone would be crazy enough…but all three at once?”
Life is crazy now.  But as I stop to think, it’s crazy everywhere.  The economy is in the tank.  People are losing jobs at an alarming rate.  We’re about to elect the most liberal government in our history (or so it seems).  North Korea is apparently NOT a terrorist state anymore (so let’s just give ’em nukes).  Russia is rising from the ashes.  Soldiers are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Babies are dying in hospital laundry rooms.  The list goes on and on and on and on.
If my hope were in this world, I’d have no hope at all.
But my hope is not in this world.  It’s in the Creator of this world.  It’s in the One Who made it all, and holds every molecule of it in His more-than-capable hands.  It’s in the King Who conquered death, and has promised to come back for His bride.  It’s in the Author and Finisher of my faith.
So in these time, I stop to think about Him.  I think of how Jesus knows all our needs, from mine here in NC to the pastor of a house church in China trying to lead his flock; from the Wall Street employee who just got laid off to the child in Uganda, dying with AIDS;  from the junkie under the bridge downtown, to the future President of the United States…He’s got us all in His hands.
And it’s in that knowledge, my friends, I head off to rest.
