I miss my oldest daughter. Big time. She’s been at her Nanny and Poppy’s house for a few days while I recover from the plague in order to make life a tad easier on Amanda (because, lets face it: a sick man is worse than 5 kids, right moms?). Each morning since she left I have a constant reminder of her absence: no wake up call.
You see, every morning, she will come into our room (or if, due to a bad dream or something, she’s already in there when she wakes up) and start smacking me and exclaiming “Wake up, Dad! Wake up!” And while I’ve enjoyed getting to sleep in a tad the past few days, I miss the Wake-Up-Caller something fierce.
Which got me thinking…
Where are the ones shouting for the sleepers to wake up? Are they out there? If they are, are we listening to them?
In Revelation 3:1-3, Jesus spoke to the church at Sardis these words:
“I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.”
Repent. Keep what you’ve heard. Strengthen what remains. WAKE UP!!
I fear the church, and myself, has been lulled to a complacent sleep. We’re no longer in the world, but not of the world. We’re in the world and of the world, in many cases. Many are denying the name of the Lord Jesus in favor of political correctness. It’s happening. It’s real. WAKE UP!!! Not only are we
But there are some churches, like the Philadelphia Jesus spoke to in Revelation 3: 7-11. These churches have kept the Word, and are sharing the Word. They may have “but little power,” but they are faithful to the One Who called them. They have not denied the Name.
We need to wake up. We’re playing games while the world is dying around us. We are, I’m afraid, more like Sardis and Laodecia (See the rest of Revelation 3:14-22) than Philadelphia.
Wake up!!! Strengthen what remains!
